Josef Meyer Rail AG was commissioned by SBB with the development and manufacturing of an On Track Machine (OTM) for Inspection of Bridges.
Independent Safety Assessment according to CSM
SWISS RAIL TRAFFIC (SRT) was commissioned by Siemens with the break tests of Siemens VECTRON on Switzerland Rail Routes. The locomotive chosen not being equipped with the Swiss Train Protection system. SRT had to submit a Risk Analysis and the implemented countermeasures hereto. This Risk Analysis had to be assessed by an independent Assessment Body (AsBo) and to be presented the results to the Swiss National Safety Authority (BAV).
TSI and national verification plus risk assessment for Desiro ML ÖBB cityjet trainsets
Siemens AG, Erlangen (GER) manufactures three-coach electric Desiro ML cityjet trainsets for Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB). ÖBB operates two variants of the cityjets: for regional lines (R-Bahn) and metropolitan-area networks (S-Bahn). Both trainset types were certified for Austria in November 2015 and then entered revenue service. In early 2016, the certification process also started in Germany.

Waggonbau Niesky was commissioned by Wascosa and Transwaggon with the development and manufacturing of Sliding Wall Cars.
Measurements and functional verification of catenary in the Gotthard base tunnel
As part of the service launch of Switzerland’s Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT), SCONRAIL was tasked with the functional verification of the 16.7 Hz subsystem. The GBT’s 16.7 Hz subsystem includes the catenary, 15 kV switching equipment and controls, and earthing equipment.
Experts opinions on doors, door recesses and footboards
The Rhaetian Railway (RhB) asked SCONRAIL to write an expert opinion for the Swiss Federal Office of Transport (BAV) on the study “Footboard safety“ and the study’s “Risk analysis for the area outside the door“, both of which had been written by Enotrac AG of Thun, Switzerland.
We offered RhB this service as an accredited product certification body and in this role as a „Designated Body“ for Switzerland named by the BAV.
TSI-Examination as NoBo, Assessment as DeBo and as Competent Person for Great Britain
In a major contract from Network Rail, UK, Windhoff Bahn- und Anlagentechnik GmbH of Germany developed and delivered a high performance ‘factory train’ that will slash years off the time it will take to electrify the Great Western main line.This 23-car 500 m long train will work its way west, building the railway electrical infrastructure as it goes, while adjacent tracks are still open for business at speed. This unique train includes a piling rig to vibrate the steel piles into the soil, an excavation and concrete batching unit, a structures unit which erects the masts, portal booms and twin track cantilevers and further units to install overhead wires.
Siemens Sleeping Coach RZD: TSI-Assessment as NoBo, assessment as DeBo in Switzerland and according to the CSM
Siemens AG Austria was commissioned by OAO Tverskoy Wagonostrostritelny Zavod (TZV) with the development and manufacturing of a sleeping coach for the Russian federal railways RZD. Subject is a new generation of sleeping coaches for RZD, which is intended to be operated in the transnational traffic in the area of the International Union of Railways UIC as well as in Russia, the CIS-states and the Baltic states.
Independent Safety Assessment in accordance with CSM
Transtech Oy, Oulu, Finland, has manufactured double deck passenger coaches type Ed and double deck passenger coaches for people with reduced mobility type Edfs, based on a previously homologated design. This new batch of coaches has to be compliant with TSI PRM and TSI SRT.
Confirmation of the capabilities of entities responsible for the maintenance of rail vehicles other than freight wagons
EU regulation 445/2011 of 10 May 2011 requires the certification of entities in charge of the maintenance of freight wagons (ECM). This requirement does not apply to entities in charge of the maintenance of other rail vehicles such as locomotives, self-propelled trainsets and passenger coaches. Increasingly, however, market players are requesting verification of such entities in the spirit of EU 445/2011.
Entities in Charge of Maintenance (ECM)
ECM‘s (Entities in Charge of Maintenance) must be certified in accordance with the Regulation EU 445/2011 of 10 May 2011 on a system of certification of entities in charge of maintenance for freight wagons, amending Regulation (EC) No 653/2007 and CSM RE 402/2013.
EC certification of components
Specified components can be certified either as interoperability constituents or as part of a sub-system by means of intermediate statements of verification (ISVs) instead. Components certified in these ways can be put into service or be built into subsystems throughout Europe without further verification.
Independent Safety Assessment ISA
The inverters in a traction system are controlled by microprocessors. Certain conditions require a safe blocking of the inverter in order to avoid the traction motors to turn. This is performed by a hardware based solution (Traction Safe), which is completely independent from the microprocessor controls of the inverter.

Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd., Changchun, China, is delivering trains for Beijing Line 15 to the Beijing Dongzhimen Airport Express Rail Co. Ltd. Evidence on safety shall be demonstrated by CRC for the hardware and software of the Train Communication and Monitoring System (TCMS). SCONRAIL has been chosen as the Independent Safety Assessor according to the requirements of EN 50128 and EN 50129.
Inspection of the DDPP trains
Israel Railways (ISR) assigned SCONRAIL to perform the quality control, the design approval, as well as the inspection of the manufacturing of the Double Deck Push Pull Trains DDPP. Manufacturer of the coaches was Bombardier Transportation GmbH in Görlitz, Germany. The tests were carried out in Germany and Israel, the commissioning took place on the tracks of ISR.
Inspection of the SDPP Trains
Israel Railways called for tenders for Single Deck Push Pull Trains SDPP as part of the modernisation and renewal program and to satisfy the increasing patronage. An order for these trains was placed with Siemens Transportation Systems after a careful evaluation process.
Various Carbuilders: EC Certification in Accordance with TSI CR NOISE
SCONRAIL was commissioned by various carbuilders, manufacturers of locomotives and special maintenance machines to issue the EC Certification in accordance with the Technical Specification of Interoperability relating to the subsystem ”rollingstock - noise“ of the trans-european conventional rail system TSI CR NOISE.
